Language Mindset: Online classes for kids!

Speaking in Weeks

Reader,

A quick note for you, as I’ve been thinking about your kiddo’s language journey. I hope this reaches you as both an encouraging and hopeful reminder.

When I tell people I taught myself three languages to fluency, the reaction is often the same: “I could never do that.” And honestly? You’re not wrong to think that. Maybe you’re recalling your high school experience and wondering, “How do people actually become fluent?”

The truth is, they rarely do in school settings. Perhaps one percent succeed that way. The majority, however, face two major obstacles: first, they begin far too late, and second, the priorities are all wrong.

When I learn a language, my goal is simple: I want to speak it. Am I the only one? I want to watch movies in that language—even if I don’t understand at first. I want to order food in restaurants and try it out in real life. I want to study abroad and connect with locals, to speak the native language of my friends and feel part of the inner circle. I want to preserve heritage languages so they are passed on. And yes—I sometimes want to learn a language simply because I think it’s cool.

These may be your desires too—for your child. But what often stands in the way?

The method.

I don’t teach grammar as the foundation. I don’t obsess over rules. Instead, I built a whole book series of short stories, comics, and chapter books written with one purpose: to make the language accessible, engaging, and easy to understand and respond. That's the key to speaking quickly.

They are colorful, attention-grabbing, and most importantly, they create conversations. They are not about memorization—they are about interaction.

Here’s how it sounds in practice: [this is from the 1st chapter book in the series, The Word Thief]
“Salt, the cat, drives his green motorcycle with his friends to the forest for an adventure.”
Then I ask: “Do you like to ride your bike? Where do you ride your bike? To the park? On your street?”

And just like that—your child is reading, listening, responding, SPEAKING in a new language.

And the best part? This approach works. Families see their kids speaking—really speaking—within weeks. That’s why we just welcomed four new families into our school.

This is the experience at The Language Mindset.

If you’d like to explore what this could look like for your family, I’d love to invite you to a free meet and greet. Just today, I connected with two moms who are enrolling their kids in private sibling lessons—their excitement reminded me why I love these conversations so much.
