Language Mindset: Online classes for kids!

Why American kids are missing out on the world

Reader,

When I studied and lived abroad, I was always seen as unusual.

It was unusual for an American to really speak the local language — and to speak it well. Even here in the U.S., when people hear me speaking Spanish, French, or Italian, they often ask, “Oh, did you grow up with that language at home?”

And I have to say, “No… I studied it in school.”

But here’s the thing: I’m the exception, not the rule, of becoming fluent before graduating. I had a motivation that expanded outside of the classroom walls.

Most American kids grow up speaking only English. And while English is spoken around the world, what they don’t realize is just how much they’re missing out on.

When you only speak English, you’re always a little bit on the outside. When you speak the local language, you’re on the inside — connecting with people, joining conversations, experiencing a culture fully. You already know this. I'm here just to remind you.

That’s why I started The Language Mindset in 2019, after leaving the public school system. I can remember declining a job offer with benefits, all the "good stuff." I wasn't meant to be in a box, and neither is your kiddo's learning journey; it's much bigger than school and Duolingo! [The bird is so angry I haven't practiced Russian in a few days.]

I always knew I wanted more, even in the beginning of my own language journey. This is what I see for kids: incredible possibilities waiting for them.

I know what their future could look like with languages — and schools just can’t provide that. It's a numbers game, too many kids and not enough time. I get it, no shade towards the schools. They are doing their best.

There are some rockstar language teachers out there, and I connect with many of them — but they’re few and far between.

Even kids who are “book smart,” who memorize and follow the rules in a classroom, rarely leave a language class fluent. That’s the gap I wanted to close.

My vision for Language Mindset and YOUR KIDDO.

  1. Your child becomes fluent, and speaking another language becomes part of their life and identity.
  2. We expand globally, connecting kids from different countries — so an American child learning Italian could connect with an Italian child learning English. Parents connect too, Zoom sessions are shared, and someday families could visit each other, or kids could spend a summer abroad. This isn’t just learning a language — it’s life-changing.

It starts now. Even if your child is 18 months old, you can start reading our books and making language part of their identity. It’s possible. I’m not special — I just have a vision and know the steps to get your child there.

Your child can join the global conversation. They can be on the inside, not the outside.
